Sciatica – A Constant Problem? By Dr. Louise Bullard

Sciatica is a term used for when the sciatic nerve that runs down the back of the leg is irritated. When this nerve is inflamed it can cause pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling. It can make it hard to perform daily activities and keep you from enjoying life. It is a common misconception that when one has these symptoms that it is actually coming from the leg. The root problem is coming from the low back. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in our bodies and is formed by the three lower lumbar nerve roots. So any of these nerves can be pinched and it will cause these symptoms of pain, weakness in leg, numbness, or tingling. Chiropractic gets to the root cause of the symptoms by correcting the problem in the low back rather than mask the symptoms with pain pills, etc. Chiropractic adjustments are a safe way to alleviate the problem without the use of drugs or surgery.
